Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
