19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
